Alexander Zuleta (Granados, Baja Verapaz, Guatemala, 1984) is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography. His interest in art began during childhood, developing over the years into a broad artistic practice characterized by an ongoing exploration of materials, objects and everyday experience.

Zuleta studied Graphic Design at Universidad del Istmo in Guatemala, beginning his university education at the age of seventeen. His work has been presented in numerous exhibitions and cultural events in Guatemala and internationally, receiving recognition through institutions and initiatives including Juannio, Fundación Rozas-Botrán, Helvetas, the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura and Alianza Francesa, among others.

His artistic practice challenges conventional classifications and moves between formal painting and experimental approaches, incorporating elements of lyrical expression, poetry and the language of the readymade. Everyday objects become a starting point for reflecting on fragility, identity and the cultural realities of Latin America and the contemporary world.

A recurring element in Zuleta’s work is his investigation into childhood and the ways in which early experiences continue to shape our understanding of objects, forms and humanity. Through this research, he questions the meaning and presence of things in relation to space and time, transforming familiar elements into vehicles for personal and collective reflection.

His work is also informed by his experiences of Guatemala and by broader questions surrounding globalization, contemporary society and the transformation of the world around us. Combining personal memory with observations of social and cultural environments, Zuleta develops a visual language in which the ordinary can acquire new meanings and unexpected possibilities.

His work forms part of private collections in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, Brazil, Canada and the Netherlands, among other countries.
